COIG Christmas Show *The Grace 2024 Series

Purchase tickets here.

Come out and get in the Christmas spirit with this wonderful Cape Breton Celtic supergroup, Còig.

Còig is one of Atlantic Canada’s most exciting Celtic traditional groups made up of accomplished multi-instrumentalists, Chrissy Crowley, Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen. With the fiery Celtic high-energy style as its musical core, Còig easily shifts between century-old tunes of past generations to original and upbeat compositions, featuring the band's range of over a dozen instruments (vocals, fiddles, piano, guitars, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more). With driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy, Còig is an unparalleled music force.

Còig’s music is a unique combination of influences that could only come from these players.
“We all come from sort of a traditional background, but then we have different influences that we’re interested in,” explains fiddler and singer Rachel Davis. “Chrissy (Crowley, fiddler) likes to dive into a lot of world music, Darren (mandolin, guitar, banjo, etc.) comes from a kind of Irish theme from playing around a lot. More of the traditional Cape Breton stuff is really what I love, plus all the folk songs, so it’s an interesting mix.”

Còig’s music is a unique combination of influences that could only come from players. It’s the best in traditional music, in a non-traditional way. That’s Còig.

Be it the age old conundrum of human experience, environmental tragedies, or ancient songs from long ago, their sound is a connective live experience.

Performed by Lawrence Maxwell

Lawrence Maxwell cut his teeth on beer caps, rough waters, and country music. His latest album, Ballad of Miles has been nominated for seven 2023 Music PEI Awards and has received airplay on: Sirius XM’s ‘Top of the Country,’ Country Hits Radio UK and CBC ‘Q’. With its neo-traditional production, and comparisons to both John Prine and Merle Haggard, Roots Music Canada has dubbed the record “the first great Canadian alt-country album of 2022.”

Maxwell hails from Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province but one with a rich country music history based on every citizen’s relationship to the land and sea. In fact, before launching his musical career, Maxwell served in the Royal Canadian Navy upon graduating high school where, during downtime aboard his warship, he would compose thoughts that would lay the groundwork for his 2018 debut album Not Your Outlaw.

That record immediately put him on the Country Music map and earned him his first Music P.E.I. Award. . Now with his latest album, Ballad Of Miles, Maxwell is poised to expand his audience even further.

The Knitting Pilgrim at The Grace

The Knitting Pilgrim at The Grace

The Knitting Pilgrim

A one-man multidisciplinary show that combines personal storytelling, image projection, and three huge hand-knitted panels called "stitched glass."

Come see The Knitting Pilgrim at The Grace Arts Centre on May 27 at 7pm!

Actor, writer and knitter Kirk Dunn will be presenting his multidisciplinary one-man show, The Knitting Pilgrim, featuring the Stitched Glass tapestries, at The Grace Arts Centre, Saturday, May 27, 2023 @ 7pm. The show, which theatre critic Lynn Slotkin called “a stunning piece of theatre… glorious and so moving,” combines personal storytelling, image projection and three huge knitted panels, designed in the style of stained-glass windows, that look at the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic Faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It recounts Kirk’s 15-year artistic and spiritual journey handknitting the ambitious project, and looks at why the faiths struggle to get along today, the meaning of art, the hell of grant-writing and the power of love to overcome major obstacles (and minor mishaps). The show premiered at the Aga Khan Museum in 2019, and has been performed over 55 times across Ontario to acclaim, with an upcoming tour in Austria and Germany in the summer of 2023.

Perfect for the knitter, and sponsored by Sisterhood Fibres who will be taking over the Ice House Gallery, The Knitting Pilgrim is a show you won’t want to miss!

To purchase tickets online, please go here.

Or, visit or call our box office during regular hours (Wednesday through Friday from 12 to 4, Saturdays from 10 to 5, and Sunday from 12 to 4). Tickets are $34 each. All welcome.

And remember, if you’re facing financial instability, we don’t think that should ever get in the way of you experiencing performances at The Grace. If finances are a barrier, all our prices are pay-what-you-can online. You can enter a price as low as zero that makes it possible for you to engage with amazing cultural experiences. And those who have the financial capacity to pay the $34 suggested price, we’re grateful! Without all of you, The Grace wouldn’t be what it is today.

Last Fall, Sydney Blum was included in an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The exhibition, which ran from October 2022 to February 2023, was centred around the iconic Just Above Midtown or JAM gallery that operated through the 70s and 80s and promoted marginalized voices in New York’s art scene. As a part of exhibiting with JAM, Sydney was invited to include original work from her earlier career as well as present some of her new work at the opening reception and party at the MoMA..

We will be hosting Sydney's MoMA presentation on her work and career as well as a conversation with the artist to celebrate both Sydney's inclusion in the MoMA exhibit and her distinguished career! All are welcome. Join us as we celebrate Sydney and their work!
